Accomplishments
Over the past twelve months, the directors and members of MSA have been working hard to build the organization, increase membership, and to establish a working relationship with DMR and the Maine Legislature. They have also been working on some of the major issues confronting the shellfish industry. Listed below are some noteworthy accomplishments.
- Had representation on the Natural Resource Agency Task Force
- Have hosted and will continue to host industry meetings at the Fishermen's Forum
- Have board members on the new Shellfish Advisory Council
- Lobbied the Legislature to increase funding to DMR for increased testing to mitigate closings
- Participated in the Water Quality Review
- Continue to track bills in the legislature and provide information to the Marine Resources Committee
- Have developed a working relationship with DMR staff
- Took a position on Red Tide disaster funding, recommending that payments go to harvesters
- Host a web site for the membership and the industry
- Have exhibited at the Fisherman's Forum
- Have increased membership yearly
- Have developed partnerships with other industry organizations
